The Vision

As I watched the atrocities being committed against the people of Ukraine, I was overcome with a sense of duty to my fellow citizens of the world. An attack on one free democracy was a threat to all, challenging the idea of a free world, and prompting me to do my part in shaping this world into something I am proud of. So, I decided to act in the quickest way I knew how. My initial impulse to serve grew into a donation website within 72 hours. I researched which supplies were needed most, compiled my own comprehensive list, and made Amazon wish lists for infants, children, women, and soldier supply kits. Since April 2022, nearly 300 pounds of donations have been delivered to my house through this Amazon wish list system. The support of my family and friends using social media to spread the word has been crucial to collecting the supplies.

Everything changed for me when my dad’s friend, Santosh Govindaraju saw a Facebook post promoting my website. I am grateful that he saw my passion for this cause, as this post prompted him to invite my father and me to Ukraine with him. The work he has been doing through ACT Global and the Mohanji Foundation has made an inspiring impact on the communities in the Chernivtsi region and has further inspired me to take action. There was not a doubt in my mind about whether I wanted to go.

When we crossed the border between Romania and Ukraine for the first time on May 26th, we made our way to the Boyany school, a place that I will hold dear to my heart forever. The children, parents, and volunteers I met there and at the various hospitals and refugee centers we visited were unforgettable. There was always something to learn. The children taught me that you can always find a reason to smile. Their mothers showed me unshakeable courage in the face of uncertainty. The volunteers taught me that through listening, observing, and leading with your heart, you can make a lifelong impact on people’s lives.

Every moment I spent visiting facilities in need of aid, I was in awe of the pride and love every single Ukrainian had for their country. I knew then that the strength of this country was in its people, and I knew that I would continue doing my part in helping each and every one of them succeed.

I will continue this journey of learning and experiencing what it’s like to make a real, efficient impact on the lives of the Ukrainian people. I am grateful to each and every person who donated to my concert fundraiser. Using the $20,000 we collected, our team, including my father and Santosh, were able to purchase essential supplies such as microwaves, washers, dryers, baby wipes, clothing, and much more for facilities in need. My goal is to continue addressing the imminent and long-term needs of internally displaced Ukrainians and refugees through fundraising projects and service trips.

This trip began my lifelong mission of service to lead the world into a better place. It may be a cliche to say that, but if there’s anything I have learned it’s that a positive impact on even one child, one family, one life has already made the world a better place. I want to reach as many Ukrainians as possible with my projects and give them the opportunity to live their lives the way they deserve.
